Settlers, I accepted an offer and I’m moving to seattle by September and I will be working in downtown. What areas would you recommend for me to look for a place at? I’m mid 20’s I’m choosing between belltown, south lake, or Cap Hill. Which one is better? Or anything else? Planning to walk, or bike to work. No car TC 155k
CapHill is probably closest to your office and is the most affordable of the 3.
Cap Hill if you’re gay. No real difference between belltown and SLU. Can’t speak of the violence in these community. First Hill if you want cheaper rent. Crime has likely shifted somewhat since I lived there. But I loved living in Belltown personally. But that was a different Seattle than now. Alternatives: Eastlake, Westlake, Wallingford, south Queen Anne if you’re okay biking to work and want something quieter.
Can you tell why First hill is cheaper? I saw that but I thought there is something fishy
It’s near hospitals and boring. Also near the less desirable areas
Belltown
Where are you moving from?
Charlotte, NC
Well if you ever remotely experienced blues during winters or rains(SAD), just stay 2000 miles away from Seattle. It’s a very depressing place. Sorry, but have to tell you. 70% of hirings happen during June and July in the Seattle area.
Capital Hill is the most fun of those options. SLU is boring, but quiet.
Capitol Hill, no brainer.
How much money did you earn in Charlotte, NC and what money you will make in Seattle? In NC you could buy a mansion with $155K whereas in Seattle you will live in poverty with this TC.
Poverty with 155 in Seattle? Jesus Christ, you live a sheltered life.
I’m happy with my 155k. Back to the topic.
SLU is a cultureless corporate wasteland. If youre young and like to go out drinking, go to cap hill. If you’re looking for a more mature crowd, Fremont and ballard are like cap hill for grownups. Belltown is cool too but definitely a bit sketchier. Wallingford is cool but I don’t hang out there much and can’t really comment on it. I think it’s mostly a UW student scene.
What's your budget for rent?
I’m aiming for max 2500 if it’s too close to work. Otherwise ~2000 to make up for commute
Which employer?
WeWork
Live in amli arc. 1 min walking commute
