Pathway to a FAANG company for new grad

Hi guys, I recently graduated out of college and started working at my current company as a ML Engineer. Things have been going pretty good so far. Im working on a project which directly optimizes the company’s revenue/margin. Im learning a lot of things. Infact we have potential patentable works. Because of the layoffs, some of my peers are ex FAANG employees with lots of experience. Nothing to complain about the current job. However I have always wanted to work at a big company. Very specifically Google. It has been my dream to be part of Google since my 8th grade. I have always been a fan of all the innovation they pioneered especially in ML. Can someone here guide me on things I need to do to end up in such a prestigious company? Thanks. #google #amazon #machinelearning #netflix #lyft #microsoft #meta #apple #datascience #newgrad #earlycareer

Stop dreaming of working at Google. They’re washed up and laying off a ton. (I’m at a non-Google FAANG now and rejected Google last year). Instead of dreaming of a company, focus on TC, benefits, and what you want to work on. Apply to a ton of jobs and practice leetcode as much as you can. Treat every interview as a learning experience, and treat rejection as free interview training. Seriously, just apply tomorrow to every company you’re remotely interested in and beginning prepping for interviews.

I would echo this. FAANG is overrated. Understand what you're interested in and pursue that.

Bigly agree with above poster. Once you get into any big company you see how the name is largely coasting on the inertia of the founders and a lot of right time, right place market luck. I can say from experience here that at LinkedIn (not a FANG but still) leadership is full of technically illiterate talkers and backstabbers and that pulling an Elon Musk cleanout on these people wouldn't just leave things the same, it'd probably make them better. Actively looking to leave for that reason. Chase TC and interesting work regardless of the name.

FAANG is super overrated, but I understand how you feel. I visited the NYC Google campus when I was in 8th grade and got hooked on the idea of working here. One of the hardest parts of landing your first FAANG job is just getting the interview. Once you have one lined up, prep is pretty much just leetcode grinding until you feel comfortable solving questions quickly with clear solutions + articulating your ideas well at the same time.

Grow up Dude. Work where you get paid well, Valued, learning enough. All these Faang, Prestige, brand, are BS and overrated things. Be great a engineer and don't be a company simp
