Hello Blind community, I'm moving to the Seattle area soon, trying to figure out where to live. Mercer Island seems like a good location between Seattle and Bellevue, and schools look good (at least on paper), but there's not a whole lot of information about it online. Folks who live or lived there: do you like it? Would you recommend it as a good place to raise family? Why? Why not? Folks from the greater Seattle area: would you live on Mercer? Why? Why not? TC: $400K
Watch out for landslides. If you get a place that is not susceptible to that it's a good place. Also note the bridge is at the top of the island and if you buy a place at the far end it's actually a little remote. Some people like that but keep an eye on your estimated commute as you look further down the island.
Thats a great place but expensive.
They have prissy cops
It's a NIMBY pool but pretty nice place otherwise. Watch out for access to I-90. Commute can suck if you're far.
Nice that you can go between Seattle and Bellevue without ever really taking the toll bridge. Sucks that you basically have to go to Seattle or Bellevue to do anything.
I’d take a look at Upper Queen Anne/Fremont unless you’re dead set on being close to the east side.
Those places are more for singles wanting to live in a cool area with lots going on. OP asked about raising a family. Unless you want your kids making friends with the homeless the Island is much better.
You’re asking the wrong question. PNW is a bad place to live. Fucking rain and gloom all year long. Except for 2 months of summer that swindle you into staying another year. People there are all depressed (whether they admit it or not) and uptight. Seattle freeze is real.
Have you actually lived in Seattle? April to October is usually pretty good with lots of sun
May be for the moves here. For plenty of people it's a great weather overall with a decent variation and an amazing place to raise family compared to the trash that much of California is
Yes Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos recommends it
High ground. In the next big earthquake there will be tidal waves and massive flooding.
We lived there for 2 years.. highly recommend it. Great for families, amazing schools, great waterfront parks, and really easy commute to Bellevue or Seattle. It is expensive to purchase a property (we were renting), but if you can afford it, don't hesitate. Hit me up if you have any more questions.
Absolutely not.
