Raytheon vs Axiom Space

What do you think? RTX fully remote, Axiom remote but I think eventually have to relo to TX. I'm currently making slightly more at a small startup but willing to jump. TC 210 YoE 8

hey yall who voted, could you also share why you picked?

Lockheed Martin mrneten436 Apr 29, 2023

Raytheon is not as good as used to be these days with execs squeezing all they can from employees. The trend has only continued over the last few years and shows in the high turnover rate.

thanks. even if i join, i doubt i'm gonna stick around for very long.

Raytheon Ddhf82 May 1, 2023

If the plan isn’t to stick around long term than I would base my decision on the technology I will work with. Which ever will make you a stronger engineer for the next opportunity would be the best choice. The next opportunity could be even more lucrative.

Raytheon Jggu12 May 1, 2023

What’s the team/tech you’ll work on? Since I have no context I’m leaning towards Raytheon for the TC and dip after a year. This is a remote role, doesn’t seem like you’d be working on any classified/old projects. I’ve been remote my whole time at RTX, all using modern frameworks.

Only dumb people works for defense 😂

jpeg87 OP May 1, 2023

where do smart people work?

Raytheon -ChatGPT May 1, 2023

Smart people work in non-defense. Defense is at least 150 years behind in tech we still use fortran and visual basic 😂😂😂😂

Lockheed Martin nRWd22 May 1, 2023

How did you find it? Remote with 200k TC. That is my dream job. Do you have a TS?

New
jpeg87 OP May 1, 2023

no TS. just standard

Raytheon PavC16 May 4, 2023

By standard, do you mean secret or confidential?

Raytheon liww67 May 2, 2023

I picked Raytheon but I’m biased cuz I already work here. I have a friend that works at Axiom but it forced him to move to Texas (I’m from California) so since the TCs are about the same it all depends on where you want to live

jpeg87 OP May 2, 2023

i don't mind moving around. just wanted to work the one that leads to a better one next.

Raytheon liww67 May 5, 2023

In that case Raytheon is a bigger name and would more likely lead you to a better job in the future while Axiom would more likely pigeonhole you into the space industry if that’s what you wanted to do

Microsoft lfhf06 May 2, 2023

I'm surprised the pay is that low for senior swe at axiom.

National Oilwell Varco IoPS87 Oct 27, 2023

Thats pretty high for houston

Collins Aerospace bella6148 May 3, 2023

Surprised p4 got that much at Raytheon. Probably on IT side rather than their products core software engineering which pays shit. Not sure of your work location but most places I know will relatively chill but with low pay. Good luck!

jpeg87 OP May 3, 2023

thanks. it's fully remote

Raytheon PavC16 May 4, 2023

Not a SWE, but my impression is that you'll get to move faster and use much more relevant tools at Axiom. No personal experience there, though. RTX has great WLB, but with full remote, you might find them comparable.

Microsoft lfhf06 May 4, 2023

Is RTX shorthand for Raytheon? Or is it a division within Raytheon?

Raytheon PavC16 May 4, 2023

Raytheon Technologies. Shorthand for the whole company, following the merger with United Technologies. Used to be RTN for short. RTN + UTX = RTX.
