Dreading to work each day

Every night I dread waking up the next morning to work. It's a combination of toxic team culture, bad manager and unexciting work. I'm on a visa and just can't quit. I'm scheduling interviews but there's so much to do at work I don't have time to leetcode as much as I would like to because of a micromanager. I have so much anxiety it causes me constant headaches by the end of the day. I feel so tired and exhausted all the time. I know there's no easy solution but kind of just posting here to vent/find some support. Yoe : 5 years

Damn all this at LinkedIn?

Sounds like his manager and team must be all ex-Amazonians lol.

I think I was unfortunate to have picked the team which I'm in, not all teams at LinkedIn are like this. Some friends have mentioned that they like their teams a lot.

If moving to a low workload team is an option, do it. Make sure the new manager isn't a micro-manager. Then continue interviewing until you find a new job. If that's not an option, just take a week or two long staycation to feel better.

Any tips on how to make sure a manager isn't a micro manager in a meeting or talk? This would be my ideal situation

Feel lucky to be not employed at Amazon. At Amazon, managers quietly keep people on dev plan and surprise them with a PIP. Amazon has lot of shady managers.

That sounds terrible!

What's difference between dev plan and PIP

That's exactly my thoughts, I wish I could just take a sabbatical and recover. I spend my weekends being anxious about all the work for the next week and it causes so much stress that I can't relax.

not the best time to travel / take a sabatical.. maybe wait another 1ish year?!

Take a few days off

If it helps, I am in a similar situation with the added pressure of a shady Amazon pip that was a complete surprise. Brighter side for me is that I don’t have to worry about visa. Keep interviewing and soon things will be better. Try to do your current job without overthinking or paying attention to the toxic actions of your manager/team. Do what’s best for the product and don’t let anything else bother you.

It's easier said than done to ignore bad manager who is super rude and always behind you for even few hours delay. They want status updates every few hours and if there's no significant process they get annoyed and start questioning why and what the delay because of.

Sounds like a toxic manager.. what if you stop caring what your manager thinks and focus your attention on getting out of your manager's control?

LinkedIn corposlave Jul 20, 2020

Same
