Recruiter pinged me for Dropbox M5 level position(maps to M2). Curious on Dropbox future outlook? I have my interviews setup with Facebook, I bet they would level me as M1. I would love some inputs from the community on what you think of Dropbox future? Is it worth picking Dropbox M2 instead of Facebook M1? Assuming TC is almost similar range. Current TC: 450k YOE 15+
Dropbox is dead. Simple as that. Join if you want to be onboard the Titanic as it goes down. Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive and Apple Cloud killed DropBox. Nobody wants a special separate cloud hosting account when the service they already use regularly include one.
By dead you mean second highest market share (21%) of cloud storage ? https://www.fool.com/investing/2020/11/11/is-dropbox-stock-a-buy/
Yes. Competitors are growing their userbases in mid double digits. I don't believe that Dropbox would still be an independent company 3 years from now
Still somehow dropbox quarterly revenue is more than 500mil and they are growing 10-15% every year, they have other products too other than storage so eventually they will be either acquired or merge with another organization
Drop box literally
Dead ship..rather non sinking. It will be around but very tough competition
Somehow I don’t think Dropbox has much of a future. They may grow every now and then, but there’s a ceiling coming and soon after they’ll get smashed to the pavement by Google, Amazon, et al
In terms of career growth, Facebook probably will increase your resume value more. However, we pay as well sometimes more than Facebook with a better work life balance. Many people in this thread only knows about file sync & share, however we have a lot of new products in the pipeline targeting content creators, so a lot of interesting projects to work on and talented people to manage, in your case.
Upsides: The company prints money from a stable and modestly growing business. It’s a purely technical product in a lot of ways so it’s appealing to engineers. It pays well. Great team overall. Downsides: growth / trajectory is pretty much locked-in for the near and medium term. Company more or less is what it is right now. Lack of breakthrough products and features can be frustrating for some. Opportunity: you can look at it two ways. You can join now and expect to get paid well, work with a smart team and have good WLB. You can also look at it as an opportunity for a chance to help deliver the next big thing for the company which takes it to a new tier of growth and momentum with the corresponding growth in stock price that would probably accompany that.
This
Yes this. I am here to help the company launch the next successful company. I am paid very well and if we are successful there is pretty decent upside.
Only things I know are that Dropbox remains profitable and they are hiring like crazy now. Before you get your FB offer, there is no way to compare which one is better. But culture wise, I believe Dropbox is better. Also M5 is a very high level. L5 is Staff Engineer equivalent.
Let's see if it can comeback like Snap did
Had a lot of folks who were let go earlier this year and outlook for Dropbox doesn't look great. See if TC is a lot better would say FB better option
