Dropbox on Resume?

Does Dropbox look good on your resume? Do folks at Dropbox still get pings from recruiters at top companies? Can you get your foot in the door being from DB? Thinking of interviewing. TC - L6 360 (post drop)

Honestly recruiters don't even look at the company all that much. If you have a decent resume - you'll get calls back. But yes, Dropbox has enough brand recognition.

Strongly Disagree. I was a much higher title before Amazon and now that I’m here literally everyone pings me.

Probably because you have a bad resume lol. My point is that a good resume gets you past those recruiters. Engineers don't care about place, more so scope and tech experience which they gauge during interviews

Damn so much for brand name … I have hired people from companies whose names you would have not even heard and you know what those guys turned out to be really good, even better than the FAANG hires.

Good people from no name companies.. their scope is literally everything lol While at FAANG it's possible they only concentrate on a very small portion of a system. It's also a LOT harder to hide and underperform at a smaller shop since visibility is much higher

If you don’t think that having a major brand on your resume helps get your foot in the door… it’s just not being honest

I think as engineers we don't really care about the brand name as much as the actual skill set of the person but I think recruiters seems to put some emphasis in brand names. I could be wrong of course but that's what I observed so far.

Correct.

Dropbox bingo on Jun 9, 2022

Yes. Lots of ex Dropboxers founded companies, part of unicorns, and moved back and forth between FAANG. Talent is high.

Amazon wowzerd OP Jun 9, 2022

That’s awesome.

Honestly I think "prestigious" companies are just to flex to your friends and family. Any experienced engineer can get interviews anywhere (maybe exception being top hedge fund companies).

You’re just wrong if you don’t think a big/good name doesn’t get your foot in the door for a lot of things. It’s like going to an Ivy League school, sure smart people come from everywhere, but on average you want someone from Harvard

For a fresh grad? Sure because you don't have a proven track record. Experienced is a different story. Why do companies not care about GPA unless you're a new grad? Do you think the recruiter is going to care about your 4.0.gpa 10 years ago when you're applying for a senior position?

You will have Amazon on your resume. You pull up in every recruiters SDE search.

Good point

Lol. Says Amazon. I came from Amazon, and chose DBX over Meta and G last year. Very happy about my decision. Pay, wlb, culture and engineering scene are much better than Amazon. Will never go back.

Amazon wowzerd OP Jun 10, 2022

That’s great to hear. I’m assuming you could get interviews again now and you get actively recruited for roles

Dropbox blahblah… Jun 10, 2022

Same here, coming from Msft and chose Dropbox over meta, G, and Amazon, couldn’t be happier.

Dropbox badcodex Jun 10, 2022

Yes, getting recruiter emails all the time. But I think it is the same for most companies.

Amazon wowzerd OP Jun 10, 2022

That is my biggest concern so that’s good. Just haven’t been with a mid size company before.

Amazon wofn592 Jun 11, 2022

Recruiting emails definitely kicked up a notch after I went to Dropbox. FAANGs, but also lots of startups in various stages. So don’t worry, your inbox will still be full.
