Hey Dropbox people, How much is Python used on the backend, as in, at scale? There’s not too much up-to-date info on the topic. Thanks! #dropbox #dropboxcompany
Used to be a lot of python, probably still one of the largest python backed in tech, but mostly Golang which is much much better than Python as a server side language. Most of our infra services are in golang.
Do you have a lot of micro services or big massive monolith? Even with micro services without type checking how do new developers get on boarded? Like without running the app how will they know what type and what all fields does say an "options" variable have at runtime? Just curious never worked with python before. So might sound like a silly question
There's static type checking before code gets build. Guido worked on this stuff at dropbox
Most of the desktop client is still in Python but server is mainly Golang now
I think they use Go on the server-side
