Interviewed with Dropbox and cleared on-sites but the team I interviewed for filled the headcount. Recruiter scheduled some sell calls with other HMs that are interested, and I’m pretty sure I don’t have to reinterview. I know Dropbox in general is known for good WLB and company culture but as with everywhere I expect it’s somewhat team-dependent. What are some teams with notably good WLB? Any teams to avoid? I don’t particularly care if the project is super interesting, but it would be a nice bonus if I didn’t walk into a terribly fragile spaghetti codebase as well. Not trying to rest&vest, but I’d like to be able to do my 40hr weeks most weeks and just sign off and be done. Don’t have offer numbers yet. Have some other offers (370-400k) and on-sites scheduled but assuming offers are competitive I’m leaning to Dropbox for various reasons (wlb, remote-first, etc) YOE 5.5 TC 300k
May I ask what the interview process was like? I have my code signal then onsite. 3 YOE
Code signal was basically “write a class that does this” and then “modify the class so it does this,” repeat. You can submit as many times as you want, the more test cases you cover the higher the score. I ran out of time but it was enough to clear. On-site was a mix of sys design, code, behavioral etc. It wasn’t very LeetCode like but rather…well I’d recommend studying up on your multi-threading primitives
Alright cool cool. People said the interviews were taken from some GitHub. Wondered if you saw that and could verify. Much appreciated you taking the time to respond
Congratulations! IC4? How was system design?
Funny these questions never get answered by the people from the company :)
I know 🥲
Anyone a solutions consultant/engineer for Box?
This is dropbox, not Box.
Core sync and storage are known for good wlb as they’re both relatively well established
Yea but being part of Core is always the busiest. I’d recommend Growth or bizplat for better wlb
I’m just stating what I’ve heard from fellow dropboxers, not in any of the above orgs myself. :) Wouldn’t growth be hardcore since you have to create new products from scratch?
after onsite is hc? does the recruiter ask you for preferences after passing hc?
In the first sentence I mentioned that the team I interviewed for initially filled their headcount, so it seems my profile was put up-for-grabs for other HMs
ask to talk to devs on the team, not just the manager. they’re who you’d end up working with most anyway, and you can gauge from there.
Did you accept OP? Which team and what was the offer breakdown?
I accepted. IC3. Breakdown was 185k/487.9k/15%/25k; RSUs have a 1y cliff. Can DM for team, don’t want to say here.
Thanks for replying. Will DM for team. Curious why you went with this offer though when you said you other offers were in the 370-400 range?

East Asian Men don’t talk to me bc I’m Vietnamese
How long did it take for you to hear from them? I interviewed last week.
2 weeks. Recruiter said it would take 1 week but it took exactly 2. Maybe it’s because they filled the headcount and had to talk to other teams 🤷♀️
Thanks for letting me know! I will now be hoping that they would’ve gotten back to me sooner if it was a “no” 😀
