I'm an SDE1 at amazon and I hate my life. I feel good about an interview at niantic (non-game team) and honestly feel like it would be nice to work there from speaking with the people.
My only concern is that Niantic doesn't seem to have a product other than pokemon go, which is paying the bills at Niantic. If I joined, I'm afraid I'll only be there for a year until they let go of many people because of making no money off their non-existent product and pokemon go failing.
They seem to have stock compensation but i'm seeing stuff online about a possible acquisition instead of ipo. How can I cash that out? Their $9B valuation seems to be coming from metaverse hype and a promised AR platform product, which I have yet to see proof of.
I mean I'll definitely join because I think I'll sink faster at amazon than jumping on the niantic ship and then sinking later.
I am hoping for niantic's fortune because the people here seems pretty happy and I'd like them to continue working at a place that makes them happy.
