Asians - what are your thoughts on asian female white male ?
Hey everyone. I’m in a role right now that has some organizational issues (two product analysts that i’m responsible for, but don’t report directly to me) and dozens of top down initiatives with tight deadlines and strong push. I’ve pushed back on each of them so I can prioritize higher impact initiatives and focus on user research etc. But it’s proving to take a lot of time and is extremely draining. I’m still filling up sprints for 5 front end and 3 back end devs but it’s not always the most impactful work that enters them. Where can I go with around 1 yoe as a PO? Should I apply for PM positions, APM, or stick around? If so, for how long? Industry: money transfer/fintech but open to others TC: 88k YOE: 10 mos (in tech product) almost 2 years (in tech and consumer products) #tech #product #entrylevel
You’ll find similar challenges at any company. This is a part of being a PM. Spend a few more months to evaluate if you like the PM role. As an entry level PM, it’s good to think about more needle moving work but you don’t have to beat yourself up for not getting it done successfully. Execution is a bigger part of the job in early years. No current/future employer would realistically expect you to build winning strategies, vision and business models. Gain more experience, say 2 years, and then switch. No harm in trying meanwhile for any Tier 1 APM programs. Unless the job switch helps you get a better employer brand, it won’t be worth the switch at this point. Btw, is Ria safe to send money internationally? I haven’t read a lot of good reviews.
Appreciate this perspective. That’s exactly what I was weighing. Getting a potentially better employer brand. Are you in product at eBay currently? Yes it’s safe. There’s a bit of red tape to do so because of our compliance filters. Like if you’re sending above $1k out of US you have to upload some additional documents. Depends where you’re sending and how much but the experience differs vastly.
Thanks! Yes, I’m a PM.
Stay at least for a year. And look for new work.
An additional year (1y 10mos) or a year total?
Sounds like a normal PM job. What do you think would change with new job?
That’s why I’m here! Cure my naïveté. I’m looking for a spot that is a more user focused role
