I've been at meta for 6 months, and I don't think I can sustainably work here for longer than another 1-2 years. Is it possible for me to get hired at Google as senior after this time period?
Can you not aim for E5+ promotion?
I can but I would have to sacrifice my personal life. I'd rather hit my goals as an E4 and be hired externally as a senior for a slower paced company
yoe?
What’s been so bad about it after 6 months? Is your team expecting you to work over 40 hours?
I'm doing 45-50 hours which is a little bit more than I'd like but not that bad especially for the money. However I'm constantly worried if I have enough impact, getting feedback from enough people in the team and XFN when I haven't had opportunities to collaborate with XFN much yet, not sure if I measure up to the other engineers on the team. I deliver good code and do generally good work but I've made a few "hiccups" on executing my very first project which my TL called out. I feel like I can work hard and give it my all and I can do a pretty good job but I still get called out for small issues, which I then can fix but I feel that this indicates I am just not a good fit for this company
Yeah I get that, the impact thing is something you have to worry about at all faangs, though Meta is especially focused on it. Sounds like you might be being too hard on yourself though. If you’re new you get slack. Your TL calling things out might just be to help you improve. At level 4 I don’t feel like there is a huge amount of expectations for XFN
You'll probably get L6 given how things are at G.
L5 is good enough for me, don't need additional stress.
