https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/04/google-gives-up-on-google-allo-hopes-carriers-will-sort-out-rcs-messaging/ Yo Google, What is up with: Google Chat / GChat (gmail chat service) Google Wave Google Hangouts Google Allo Google Duo Google Spaces Google Messenger Google Messages Google Voice Chat/RCS Why could Hangouts not be streamlined, modernized, and optimized to be relaunched with integrated RCS, SMS, MMS, OTT messaging, etc? A messaging app that supports web browsers on all computing platforms with all of the modern features would be nice as well. How many employees does Google have working on messaging?
Even Google Search sucks. Even crappy Bing is catching up to them. Google is a dying business. Sad 😞 😢 😔
It’s how you get promoted in big companies. We at Microsoft know this all too well, lol!
You forgot Google+ which is the biggest disaster of them all
Behind each of those is a PM boss and engineering boss trying to show impact, to get promoted.
From what people told me Hangouts was being held together by band-aids and no one wanted to touch it and maintain it. Any credence to this?
Duo doesn’t have more usage than Allo either, and could be safely killed as well. It’s just one of the top WebRTC engineers who conceived its idea initially and now doesn’t let it die no matter how much $$ we burn on it.
Check your facts, yo. This isn't true.
Perhaps. A guy who worked on Allo told me Duo reused a lot of Allo code and initially had less engineers on the team. But still survived because some L8 eng pushed for it to hang around. Won’t be surprised if G kills it as well in a while.
I just enjoy that someone still remembers Google Wave. It was revolutionary. Like chatting in Google Docs.
Google is being embarrassed by this. Who keeps green lighting these failures? Getting ridiculous now
How can a company this big with such a big presence in messaging work against itself like this? They would be the #1 OTT messaging vendor right now rather than WhatsApp if they had not thrown it all away over the years.

Spaces: A new platform that meshes group chat capabilities with a social network, so users can for share links and converse about them on mobile and desktop devices. Messenger: Google's SMS/MMS application for Android phones. Voice: A barely-supported web service that allows users to combine various phones with one number for voice calls and SMS/MMS.
What a clusterfuck.
Seriously. Something is badly broken in the hiring process..
