28M currently working as a Test Automation Engineer with 2 YOE. I'm hoping to land a software development job at a larger company, preferably some sort of backend or devops role. I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering from a local university with a good GPA, and have taken about 8 computer science classes in undergrad. My ultimate goal is to land a SDE job at a larger company (Adobe, Microsoft, etc), and move up the ladder that way. I'd prefer to not do it, but will commit to it if it will help me in the long run. Or am I better suited to focus on personal projects and leetcode? Thanks all. TC 80K #swe
I don’t understand the question. Your goal is to be SDE in a large company but what’s the question again ?
Is OMSCS (online masters) worth it and needed to achieve this goal? Or would I be better suited just leetcoding and working on personal projects?
Ah! I personally don’t think it’s a kicker to find a job. You could do it in the meantime if you want more knowledge, but if you focus on interviewing, leetcoding and building your own things you could leverage your current experience into an SDE.
Can you apply to SWE job internally at current company ?
No listings internally so far, but people have moved in to SWE at the current company and am planning on trying to do so
Very good question. I wonder.
How come? If the goal is to be SWE
@google, how are those beneficial to employers and the work of a SWE?
Get OMSCS. Leetcode can help on algorithms but the knowledge I gained in CS degree is far more than that.
Thanks! That’s nice to know.

Israel prevents Palestinians from gathering rainwater? Seems wrong on so many levels to me
I mean if you got 10k and a couple years of patience it’d be beneficial. You could leetcode for a couple months and achieve the same effect if your resume is on point Up to you
I mean, one path seems a lot quicker and easier if that’s the case
