Anyone work here? I want to transition to game dev full time. EA tiburon is the most appealing for a variety of reasons. What’s the most effective way to network with game devs in Florida? Yes i know the TC is less than big tech. Yes i know crunch can suck. TC: ~80k
Do it on the side. Game industry is the worst possible sector of professional work. Underpaid, overworked, constantly doing triage.
I hear you. However, this a childhood dream that I need to see through. Even if I only last a year or two.
I speak from first-hand experience, not disrespect or salt. 100+ hour weeks, suicidal thoughts, just be prepared. It was my dream, too. I wish you the absolute best and hope you knock it out of the park. 🔥
Why u wanna work on pure Game industry?
For starters, game studios house a diverse set of skills (visual art, sound, music, engineering, etc) and that’s something I’d love to be a part of. I want to be surrounded by other creative people (but not just engineers). Of course, it’s also a child hood dream. I’ll regret it if I never try the games industry.
I buy the second point. Just got a GCP offer, I guess they are not just eng as well.
Do you love video games? Do you love sports? Are you willing to work a little harder and get paid a little less to be able to work on things you love all day instead of things you are indifferent about? If so, then Tiburon is a great place to be. I would answer yes to all the questions above, and I loved my time at Tiburon. I highly recommend it.
How's Riot? I heard they're working on a full-fledged anime. Sounds cool.
It’s pretty great. I loved working at EA, but everything I loved at EA I love more at Riot.
For a moment, I thought you are referring to Tiburon near SF. What a beautiful place it is. Blessed are those that live in it.
Haha that's what I thought as well
Did you manage to get a contact?
My mentor once said: playing games is fun. Making them? Not so much. PS: I don't have a mentor.
ask full sail, they’ll probably know. But in general there’s not a ton of software dev in Florida
They have a beautiful new building in Orlando, right? That’s a good sign that EA is financially solid.
Just reading this now. But I feel like I have to respond. I started my career interning as an SDE at Northrop Grumman in Maitland and then I started working for EA Tiburon across the street. I worked there for about 5 years and then got hired with Amazon. Not sure about networking without being in the industry first. Blind I guess? :) For me it took them 3 months to call me about an interview after submitting my resume. I took a C++ test followed by a few in person interviews and got hired as an SDE 1.
What’s your background/skill set?
DM’d you
