Is it still worth it to try the EB1 route by going out of the country for an year and coming back as an SDM? There’s too much uncertainty both within the company and with the immigration process. I’m torn between both choices. On one side I would be disrupting my settled employment within a team I enjoy. On the other, I would have to live with the uncertainty of visa basically forever. Does H1b allow you to work for a year outside? If not, are you going to apply for h1b again from outside?
Is better to do this as early in your career if possible.. this route becomes harder post marriage and kids. Not sure about your case.

If you want to do this, the sooner the better. More people are getting this idea, that is why eb1 is backlogged now. Backlog is probably going to grow as more apply under eb1 and port their eb2 priority date.

Everything comes with the risk, you are taking a risk, evaluate like that. Having green card gives you a lot of peace that I can say for sure
