What is the best way to keep an offer valid for as long as possible? My situation: - Offers from some companies (Audible, Uber, LinkedIn)… asked for response by end of next week - Just finished interviews with Square - Onsite with Spotify later this week, then Google and Tinder next week to finish out the loop Ideally, I have all offers in hand and can leverage them to go to the most ideal company/team. My question: - What should I expect when asking for an offer deadline extension? - Is there a go-to excuse I should use, or should I just be honest? Unsure if these companies might be keen on retracting an offer because they feel they have a diminishing chance of acceptance due to the amount of other options on the table. Bonus Question: Any thoughts on if I should avoid/target any of these companies specifically? I’m interviewing for SDE II roles in mobile. Double-Bonus Question: What TC should I be targeting? I’m in a VHCOL area. Thanks in advance EDIT: Here you go you savages. Current TC 160, offers currently ranging from 290-305 TC pre-negotiation
Bonus question? Do I get something if answer that?
I see a lot of questions but not a lot of numbers…
Why Tinder?
I like the product! Seems like a cool team to join and the company-size-to-impact ratio is attractive from a professional growth perspective. How do you like working there?
I don’t like it because none of those things are true. The product hasn’t changed in years and when it does it gets rolled back. We churn through executives, there’s no way to make an impact and they pay way under market.
You are leaving so many companies on the table, why not try your luck with 10 more companies? It will feel better.
😂😂😂
Maybe have some integrity and just tell the truth: Thanks for the offer. I have six others due in the next three weeks and will have a decision for you by (date). Those who won’t play your game will say thanks, but you have a week to decide or bye.
I have a good dislike for your type. Disdain for those who don’t share your exact value system.
How does this post tell you anything about my being self-centered or materialistic? I appreciate the perspective but not sure if the last bit was necessary
Be honest with them. They’ll push back, but historically I’ve had many offers extended by 1-2 weeks by just saying to the recruiter a few days prior to the deadline “I can’t make an informed decision at this time, I’m sorry.“
Are you in NY?
I’m a recruiter. My advice, just be transparent about your timeline and start eliminating some. Life’s not all TC. Take the job you like best, work on the thing you find most interesting alongside the people you think will lift you.
Now you also get to deal with this person formally. 😉
Absolutely, I already pulled out of 5 on-sites for this reason. The issue is how to be sure which company/team is going to be the best fit before doing the interviews
I have an interview coming up with Uber, please check your dm
You can always run up the score with the ones you have and then accept one then renege later
I hear you. Ideally I’d like to avoid that
