posting from spouses account for anonymity and have been mostly a reader (or an occasional commenter on specific topic). Currently employed in one of the established company for consumer electronics which has >50% market share in US. It is a well known company but never has grown its stock and market cap due to traditional way it operates (<5B market cap). Over past 12 years, I have had good career growth. Started as a Systems Engineer and grew up to Director in Product engineering role with multiple reports for last 5+ years. Manage a small team of 15 people and cover multiple consumer products responsible for 20% of company revenue. Over the course of 12 years, never thought much about changing jobs/careers as I was taken care of (or at least I thought so). One fine day I joined blind. Then I realized, I could make a lot more TC with lot less responsibility (and significantly high TC with high responsibility). I would say I am Jack of all trades (a little bit of HW, a little bit of SW/FW, a little bit of Operations/Supply Chain, A little bit of product mgmt, a little bit end customer facing, a little of customer support, etc). Now this is appearing to significant problem for me as I am not an expert in one area and lot of big FAANG are looking for experts in each domain. I dont think I might qualify for pure SW engineering job as I am not cut out for it and plus I dont code. I think I can excel in consumer goods space where both HW + SW + Cloud are involved (something like IoT) 1. What role(s) can I apply in bigger companies. (I would like to avoid TPM path if possible as I have heard lot of negative experiences from Blind) 2. What companies should I be targeting who work on HW consumer roducts and have high TC? 3. Would smaller startups match the current TC? 4. would I qualify for Engineering manager role in FAANG? or is that too much to ask? obligatory TC: 245K (Bay Area) - Base 200K (stock + Bonus + everything else = 45K) YOE: 13 Bonus could be hit or miss but average around 20-25K Thanks for reading and commenting. Will pay it forward. #google #facebook #apple #amazon #Internet of Things #IOT #cisco #paloaltonetworks

TPMs and EPMs are actually really good roles for your skills. It’s different case if you’re not interested or have the aptitude for it. I wouldn’t get swayed by opinions on blind so far as to not consider a career path. Also look for solutions architect roles in Alexa in Amazon. One of my friends did that role a couple of years ago and he was Jack of all trades like you
Thanks for comment. Yes, I will take Blinds' comments with a grain of salt.
