How much should you had by now if you worked for 5 years in Tech. Savings + Stock + Retirement Accounts = ?
Basically they agreed that Meta service is a vital service for the population so it should be completely free, and Meta should be a non-profit organization. We should probably get subsidies or fully supported by EU tax payer. Because "Pay or Ads" is unacceptable. https://www.reuters.com/technology/meta-should-give-users-free-option-without-targeted-ads-eu-privacy-watchdog-says-2024-04-17/ YouTube, Spotify and a lot of newspaper has this model, but they're not "big enough". This is EU trade war to kick out US companies because Europeans aren't competitive enough. What can happen next?
Meta is cancer to society. Vital service? Lol
Cool
And I bet you are invested in Meta
What does it mean? Show random ads?
That is so stupid. You can’t have it both ways — either pay for it, or deal with the ads. Why will meta agree to be a non-profit? Why should they invest resources into something if it’s not making them money?
In case the writings on the wall weren't clear, the EU were very slow and couldn't take any lead in tech. This and all the previous (and future "regulations") are nothing but trade wars, maybe in the hope to buy up some of the lost times (my own conspiracy). If Meta, Google or Apple were a German, Italian or French company, we'd be singing a very different tune.
if they were a german company they wouldn't have been able to operate the way they do. like I do not trust governments in general, but do you know who I trust even less? corporations. Meta ads are so essential in some economies that if you get banned from it, your business is basically dead if you can't find another advertising account to make it work.
Complain to the us government and put up tariffs in return. German cars, French wines, Italian food or whatever the hell else they still produce over there.
If privacy regulations are an existential threat to your business, then you should do work to mitigate that threat. They could still, I think, show ads related to the content you're viewing.
Wtf is meta’s service anyways ?
The Metaverse. We have dozens—DOZENS!—of users.
Literally almost everyone in EU and North America uses (either one or more) of our products.
I don't understand those ads, are they really useful? I guess they do, otherwise they will stop showing them.
