Blind community , My goal in life is to retire by 50 and then spend time volunteering and traveling. I'd like to make as much $ as possible before that. Considering risk and reward, what's a safe bet for a career trajectory to earn a lot of $? Working at FAANG like companies OR working at few billion $ unicorns before they go IPO, sticking through the IPO and making $ after they go IPO . So, goal: maximize the $ earnt before 50. Assume the same job type at either and I save/ invest the same amount in either case. I don't want to take a lot of risk. So, no early stage companies or founding companies. I do save for the future and enjoy the present moment. Location: Bay Area. Plan to stay here and continue working in tech No trolls please
First
Better understand the number you want $. Do not keep it open ended. You can retire earlier if you would do that
For me age is the factor. Don't want to retire earlier if I don't have to. Want to maximize as much $ as possible by 50
Without stating current age you make much of your arguments pointless... big difference if you are 25 today or 45.... and also what is your TC vs. Cost of living ...
How does the "current TC" matter if I want to maximize the $ for the rest of my career?
Don’t you think if people knew exactly what makes the most money the quickest they’d do it? It’s all risk vs reward. Go play the lottery.
How old are you now and TC.
Tc or go home!
If u have 20 years to work, you can work for 5 startups, each 4 years. If you get 1m RSU each and one of them grows 10 times, you can retire.
Interesting strategy, "Airbnb-heyha"
But but but... Who knows if you're gonna live that far? God forbid, what if you die tomorrow? Enjoy your current dude. Of course, think how can you spend wisely and save more.
I do enjoy the present. Yes, I could die tomorrow. Statistically speaking, I have many more years
Yes.
?
Either is fine. Do what you enjoy. Spend less than you make and invest heavily.
