No you can’t negotiate this, this would be a red flag for hiring manager
i agree - this is one of the few things you should NOT negotiate. it just sends all sorts of wrong signals and sets you up for a bad start.
You can negotiate when you decide to leave. Your manager or director can approve to let go the remaining sign-on bonus.
Why tf would they do this?
They have done it before. It depends on the reason for leaving and leadership approvals.
Why negotiate it down to one year?

Don’t negotiate to one year. It’ll look like you aren’t serious about staying in the position for the long term. If anything you can negotiate for more sign on bonus or stocks. Stock grants are basically retention bonus.

Negotiate other parts of your compensation like base salary and stock. Negotiating that signing bonus sends all the wrong signals (like that you are going to bounce within the very near future). I would seriously consider rescinding the offer if I was the hiring manager, because it’s a massive pain in the ass when someone leaves super early
