Asking for a friend. Got a recent offer from eBay and workday. Which one is good for career growth and work life balance? I know cons of both Ebay: Not sure if they have a strategy to survive amazon or other e-commerce. Even in pandemic, their business growth was okay Workday: Need to work on their proprietary language xpresso.. Not sure if that is good for career growth #tech #Workday #ebay #xpresso What do guys working at #ebay and #workday thing about it? Total compensation is same approximately 140k base
workday
Not sure about Workday but Ebay's engineering talent bar is pretty low. Struggles with lack of diversity and Hispanic/Latin employees don't get favored for promotions.
I disagree completely. Ebay has great talent in many teams and obviously may be in not in some teams just like any other company!!
Only app devs at workday uses XO. If your friends job title is not software application engineer, he/she is fine. Also Post tc
Don’t join ebay. Subpar talent which results in toxic culture for survival
Says someone who is still at ebay and won’t/can’t leave
Ebay has one of highest retention rates! Don’t speak for company when you speak for your team or yourself
Wow… No thought on business growth for Ebay but very interesting to know about the culture
If your friend has to use xpresso then EBay is the clear winner
Is it like no Career growth after learning that? Cz it seems why would anyone want you?
Most people who are xpresso devs are people who were new grads who didn’t get anything else or didn’t know better. Only take it if it’s your last resort, otherwise go with the place that uses a real tech stack.
Ebay app tech stack is pretty standard. Much better than any proprietary stuff.
eBay entirely depends on the team. There are some fast paced teams doing good work and also some teams filled with unmotivated con artists.
eBay eng is pretty bad overall . They throw lots of peoples at problems, not talent. Obviously some decent folks but I’d rather take an intern from my old place vs. 9/10 eBay senior engineers
Any specific reason for no eBay?
