I am looking at joining Grab as a Senior Dev in Seattle or their HQ Singapore. Any ideas on salary or work culture would be great! Grab is a ride hailing company valued at $3B primarily in SE asia. And seriously I can't imagine being part of Uber, so this is an alternative for being in transportation tech area.
They had one recruiter on Seattle who passed on me. Didn't even give me a phone screen. First conpany to have done that. But I don't think they're that successful in Asia either. Not a big a name as Uber in SE Asia.
You haven't been to Asia and talked to people there or the Uber and Grab drivers then. Grab has a significant advantage, primarily investment by local governments which them an (unfair) advantage. Local users prefer them more as well.
I was born in SE Asia and have family there. It's all Uber. Grab is only relevant in Singapore.
I would personally pick Uber. You're at Amazon. Our culture was modeled after your culture, so you already know the game.
Yes. You'd know what shit you are getting into.
Move to Singapore sounds interesting! Would love to explore options too...
A recruiter reached out to me for a senior dev position in Singapore. The salary range was very low though, 80k-100k SGD.
I admit I got the higher end of the range you mentioned but I doubt it’s considered low. Bear in mind that the average salary in Singapore is around 55k SGD
anybody know what the comp range is in Seattle?
$3 Billion is high...
Get an offer from uber and let them counter! You are welcome
Grab is fucked. To zero.
Why? Can you please elaborate?
Singapore is a country with long working hours culture.. Lots of fun places to explore in the city though.. Its the central hub in asia in a way you can fly to wherever you want from singapore with just 1 flight most of the time (vietnam, philippines, indonesia, brunei, japan, china, australia). If you are married and have kids may not be too appealing (also car price is 3x of the same car in US due to high road tax).
I’m not sure if you are speaking from actual experience, but from my own experience my working hours in Singapore is far from being unreasonable. It’s the typical 9 hours of which 1 hour is lunch time anyway.
Hey @DkSv34, Can you please explain what do you mean? Is Grab good for work-life balance? How is the culture at Grab? What are the perks of Grab?
