Emails at Amazon unusable?

My girlfriend works at Amazon, and she only has enough email space allocated to her to hold a few thousand emails. This fills up in 2-3 days, then she can’t receive new emails until she deletes some. Outlook doesn’t let her set up enough filters to reduce the rate of incoming messages low enough. So she can’t even have a 4-day vacation without checking emails. Is this normal at Amazon? How do people deal with this? #amazon

I have been 4 years at Amazon and have never gone above 500MB of email storage used. Tell her to clean her shit and make rules...

1 year at amazon and I can attest to op’s experience. It’s hard to keep the email clean. I always get unnecessary emails that end up clogging my inbox within days.

Wait what? I have all emails in my inbox since I joined a few years back. But sent emails are purged after around 2 months I think. I would say ask her to check her settings or contact IT helpdesk.

She can request more storage space via IT. She can also create a local data file in Outlook and use rules to move keep-worthy emails from her inbox to her local drive, or to move spam/memo emails to the recycle bin. Rules are easy to learn and set up in Outlook, and can be very useful to people who get tons of emails in their role/team.

Echoing on the rules thing I used them all the time at one of my old jobs.

Tell her to empty her Sent folder to start. She’s probably emailing huge decks and never deleting those emails with huge attachments. She can also file emails with large attachments in a folder that’s not stored on the email server.

This. There is no way she is getting 2gb of emails in 4 days.
