Embedded SW : Nvidia IC5 same as Lab126 L6 or L7 ?
What's the reach for Nvidia iC5 at Amazon I got a recruiter call for L6. Is that on par ? Should I push for L7 or it doesn't really happen. YOE 9 @Lab126
Lol, you’re not getting L7 with 9 YOE! No way! you might get L6 but that’s not a guarantee. Make sure you tell the recruiter you are looking for L6, if you don’t meet the bar for L6 you’ll likely be offered L5. External bar for L6 is high
Any particular reason ? As I see it Nvidia IC5 is principal. Are the Amazon/lab126 levels that skewed ? Or am I mistaken ?
You are not gonna get principal at Amazon coming from Nvidia unless you are an industry expert in a niche domain and the organization is looking for a principal in that domain. They don’t just convert a regular SDE role to Principal. They open reqs for principal and Sr.principal and only bring in candidates as such for interviews. Principal is super hard to get at Amazon, lot of SDE3’s with 20+ years exp who are super good find it difficult to get promoted. Try for SDE3, but most likely they will downlevel you to SDE2. You need to be 50% or better than existing people at that level and it all comes down to the Bar Raiser. Many BR’s in Lab126 are super strict about L6 and above.
OP, Nvidia IC5 is not principal. That’s IC6.

8-20 something like that, so maybe 14yoe avg
One other point: Amazon is a much bigger pond with much bigger fish, so that bar is higher performance-wise, even if it seems to match from a title perspective.
What’s your TC now, can probably gauge what your level could be on amazon based on that.
