I lost trust in Nudella when he said in a women empowerment conference when asked should women ask explicitly for raise and promotion. He said, good karma will come back. Just keep your head down and keep working and someone will eventually promote you. That’s the exact reason why I left Microsoft. Microsoft has a concept of visibility to get promoted where visibility means talking loud in meetings and ask vague questions in meetings to make you look smart. That culture hasn’t changed yet. Maybe those big vps are returning cause of the stock price or 55+ to rest and vest. It’s still a bad place for new grads and seniors.

Microsoft shaquck Mar 3, 2018

He said that incorrectly. I think he meant to say that in a gender neutral sense... I.e. there is nothing unique for a woman to do to get promoted just because she is a she. It came out wrong (wrong place too) and he got crucified for it. You want to keep hanging on to it forever then good riddance to you.

I don’t need a trump translator to know what actually trump means. I heard with my own ears when he said it. He tried to backtrack it after backlash. But you already let the world know how you think. You get to know people when they are spontaneous. Not after how you react after backlash.

I think the idea that the culture has shifted is bullshit, which is why I left. I don’t see myself boomeranging back to that misogynistic shit show. No thanks.

Microsoft Yuk Mar 3, 2018

People come and go for money. I see people come back with a promotion.

Amazon OtOb36 Mar 3, 2018

Only if they get a promotion while returning. It wouldn’t make sense otherwise. Also, only people who wouldn’t make it at Google, Facebook would consider it. It is a big company and there are pockets of good teams/work, though as a whole large portions of the company are mismanaged.

Amazon OtOb36 Mar 3, 2018

This looks like a PR article that Microsoft orchestrated.

I have seen many PMs making a comeback after moving to Amazon with promotion. MSFT HR was fooled by their levels - Amazon gives senior PM to PM 2 because otherwise they cant provide comparable compensation (PM salary is way lower at Amazon unlike Microsoft). Pm2 at MSFT to Senior PM at Amazon then come back as principal is a usual route and they do it in very short time. If you are PM, you definitely want to go this route as this is easy promotion to become principal PM.

Microsoft CAP- Mar 3, 2018

How much is our principal comp? Isn’t it only like $275k? That’s prolly senior tpm salary there anyway

Microsoft Aaapppllle Mar 6, 2018

Amazon pays little to PM. Their senior PM gets significantly less than senior dev.

I think many/some people got so comfortable with MS culture that when they went to other companies, they realized that were misfits. Hence the home coming may be.

Microsoft Aaapppllle Mar 4, 2018

Most boomerangs are from start ups and Amazon.

Microsoft mrballz2 Mar 4, 2018

He is boomeranging back from.... .... Qualcomm! Wow.
