So I told my CTO that I had an offer (+30% from by base salary / 65) and he got somewhat emotional (said I'm a pillar of the team and that they (team & him) needed me etc), at first he offered me +20% from my base salary (60) which I declined as I felt it did not reflect his sayings (if I'm a pillar of the team, shouldn't they make an offer that I can't decline and that's at least the same as the other offer?). He came back to me with another counter offer after talking with different teammates and insisted on what he said previously, but this time offered a promotion to Senior level and +40% (70k) + said he would act to fix the problems/frustration I had in the company. Current job would be 70 + RSU (~50k but not a public company so probably worthless) while other offer would be 65 + no RSU Not sure of what to do, I know one should never accept a counter offer according to blind, but looks like this time things may change for real. problem: I verbally accepted the 65k offer and even if nothing is signed yet, that's not clean to accept tand then desist edit 2: i'm in France with ~ 2 yoe
Irrespective of the offer. Accepting a counter is a bad idea
+1, never works out
Take it from numerous people that have took counters before. It never works out. The minute you accept, you are on a ticking clock. The HM is already interviewing to replace you because he knows you want to leave. He just wants you to stay for the time being to cover his own ass.
I did accept the counter offer. Simply bec i dont want the hassle of on boarding and high possibility of layoff with lower salary
Counter offer is there to just keep you trapped. Now they are going to find someone who work at your old salary. No employer truly gives a shit about their employees, when their interests are at stakes.
Forgot but I'm based in France, so job security is better and salary are pretty neat for my YOE (~2)
I think you should stay and accept the counter.
5k really makes no difference
Never accept counter offers. 80% of counter offers end in a layoff within 1 year
Haha what a stat.
Source? Oh right you made those numbers up.
OP, you are the only one knows the real situation and do what feels right. "never accept counter offer" is just overgeneralizing.
Go to the recruiter and ask if they can match what your current employer is offering ($70K). Actually ask $80K as they offer no RSU.
