I got an offer at 65k for a Software Developer - New Graduate position at General Motors in Atlanta, GA. The position level is 5A. I have 2.25 years working (as an intern) at the state on the Business Intelligence team, doing lots of work in Python. I am graduating this May (May 2020) with a BS in Computer Science and a 3.2 GPA. Is this an appropriate salary, given the job location and my current experience level? #offer #career #tech
For ATL yes. That salary would translate to ~85-90K in NYC, which is just about right for software developers
That was my offer too ... 5 yrs ago lol
Surprised there isn’t a hiring freeze right now. My recommendation is to take it!
Don’t be afraid to negotiate it. 2.5 years is a good amount of experience.
GM starts college hires on the low side, but the three year new college hire program is actually pretty good as you are -almost- guaranteed a 4.4% raise every 6 months. It is possible to get more, but it is a challenge. Even in the current climate, it looks like they are sticking to the schedule. Just make sure you find out if the 20% salary deferment applies to you.
4.4% raise every 6 months, and at the end of the 3-year program, an average bump of 10%.
Were you able to neg?

Sure. I’d say the normal range for a new grad in Atlanta would be 60-80k.
Do you think I should negotiate for any more?
I’d push for ~70-75k. Just me, though.
