The Bungie careers site has roles which allow remote work, but only in CA, FL, IL, NC, OR, TX, and WA. Does anyone know why? What it is it that those states are providing that makes them eligible v others? #gaming #bungie
I believe companies have to “setup shop” in a state to hire an employee there.
All they need to do is have a tax id registered in the state and file taxes which is a low burden. This would not explain the needS there is no requirement for physical location in state etc. it may be due to agreements they have with certain states for tax breaks where they have set up physical sites already. This is the more likely reason.
It’s still effort that they may not want to do for potentially a low number to 1 employee.
Some have also started doing that or specifically excluding Colorado from remote jobs so they don't have to share the salary range because of the state law haha
I see a few of their IT job postings having their remote clause at the end of a job posting for their Bellevue, WA location. Anyone from Bungie know if these positions are 100% remote because I live in one of the accepted states but not WA. Would love to break into the Gaming industry.
Slowly "opening" more states. As you can imagine, every state has their own tax implications, employment laws, etc. so it's a process to "open" an entire state. Re: remote work, we have a mix of folks who are full remote and some hybrid. Most in Bellevue still work from home eventho our Bellevue bldg is open and we opened a new one in downtown Seattle. You can only be fully remote if you live in one of the open states. Edit: there is an ongoing initiative to review our wfh/remote policies so things may change shortly
There are services now that handle that. Sony has pretty good coverage at this point. It’s all but 5 or 6 states. Maybe things will improve dramatically post acquisition?
jc what’s typica pay at bungie? i love destiny lol
Taxes and payroll
It means they’re registered to pay taxes in those states
Most of those states are no income tax states
Except for IL which is very income tax
And California and Oregon and North Carolina…
Maybe I should head over to bungie. I was rejected my request for permanent remote work and now I’m forced to live in LA, a disgusting, overpopulated city with gross people
Don’t take the weather for granted
maybe they already have business there?
Bungie has a 4.3 on Blind? Is that the highest rated game dev studio? EDIT: Ah I see there are only 4 reviews
