Deciding between Epic Systems return offer and Capital One. Epic (Madison): 110k base, 10k private stock, 10k relo bonus + 7k intern return bonus Pros: Close to girlfriend and home Same team from internship Cons: Have to pay back relocation bonus if leave before 2 years Outdated tech Cap1 (SF): 138k base, ~12k bonus Pros: better on resume? Cons: Higher COL Move cities I would love to hear your thoughts. I am interested in career growth.
Ex C1SF here. You'll have much better career development opportunities in SF over Madison and C1 tech culture is infinitely better than Epic.
Def not epic
Epic hires a lot of fresh grads out of the Midwest, works then a ton and puts them on a busted tech stack. Also, if you know anyone in healthcare, theyll tel you the software sucks. Good pay tho. Madison is really cheap.
Make it a poll. From a career standpoint, my vote is C1 (having also interned at epic and decided not to return, and having multiple friends at C1). But if it's not possible for your GF to move with you then that seems like a big factor.
Former C1 engineer here. You should absolutely take that offer.
C1 better for career prolly. Staying around family is probably better for mental support in this time.
Epic is shit in terms of tech and culture but I 100% prefer Madison over SF. Tough call
Capital One. Solely for the reason you can jump better to somewhere else easier
Hey man. I've been working here for 9 months, but know nothing about cap. WLB is oftentimes seen as bad by outsiders but it really depends on your team more than anything for devs tbh. I work around 41 on average which I think is fine. Right now my total comp is around 140. This is because of an insane new bonus policy which seems like more than double what they gave last year. They are just throwing money at us. You'd probably need 165 to match this in the Bay area. Food is great too. However, you don't get any real WFH. Right now I'm kind of ambivalent about Madison and the job in general. It's cold as hell and I don't really mesh with the bar culture. However if I had family here I would probably never leave. Maybe this is all just due to my personal values.

Horrible Netflix ML interview experience
Epic works folks to death. Verona, WI is the middle of nowhere (not actually *that* close to Madison). No indication that private stock will ever be worth anything tangible. I'd take the Capital 1 offer.
