I am currently negotiating offer for Senior Manager, Data Engineering at Capital One. They have offered 200k Base 14k Target Bonus 50k Sign on Loc- NYC YOE-13 I am being told by the recruiter that they dont offer equity compensation at this level. They say it is available at Director and above positions or at Distinguished Engineer level. Do they make an exception ever to this policy? Current TC- 185k Edit- I did not accept.
Ask for the DE loop? Also what is that target bonus? Seems awfully low
Yeah that bonus is low. I’m a PA (senior engineer) and I’m only a little less than that.
What is the DE loop?
You get access to a stock purchasing plan which will allow you to use 15% of your pay to buy C1 stock at a 15% discount though
That’s a $4500 per year benefit @200k base. Nowhere close to what RSU grant numbers look like. And companies that grant stocks also offer ESPP
Banks tend to focus on giving cash and letting employees invest it how they want. Tech originally gave more comp in stock since they didn't have enough cash. Big tech now has enough cash but people are now accustomed to getting stock instead of cash
Yeah, there’s no equity until Dir+ here. But you do get ESPP like everyone else.
Depends on job family, I have seen equity at senior manager for ds
Just curious, what role? (Da, pm, ba, etc)
this is for Data Engineering. Not sure if they give out at that level
Agreed you will not get any equity until Director and it won't be a meaningful amount of equity until VP. Our bonuses are generally cash
Some job families give equity at senior manager level, depends on what job family you are in. Varies a lot between ba,da,ds, and swe
Honestly, it shocks me how low this offer is, Im a a software engineer with 1 yoe and Im getting 140k, i cant imagine 12 years later ill only be making 60k more. Seek a better offer imo
But it might not take you 12 years to get there. Don’t assume everyone had it easy?
Just saying that seems like a very low base for someone with 13 yoe
Where do you live currently? Base could be higher for NYC and unless they can’t replace you with someone else, they won’t give you any equity
50K sign on bonus! Never heard that one before.
Nope. Generally in the banking sector, you will not be compensated with equity. Source: former C1 SWE
