I’m curious if any non-US citizen singles here has done their trust/living will and how was your experience? I talked to a lawyer briefly and was told I can’t assign my parents in home country as trustee. I had to find someone who is a US permanent resident to manage and transfer the assets to my parents in case accidents happened (and I should REALLY trust him/her not to keep the money himself). Another option is to use a trust management company which will charge me 5% of total assets value every year (that’s a lot!) Do I have other options? I don’t have any relatives here, so will have to depend on friends if my parents can’t be the trustee :(
Can you be the trustee?
5% every year??? Are you sure it's not a one off fee at execution?
I’m sure it’s for every year - the number might be off though
Can’t you just write a will?
Find someone(pref a friend) who is in a similar boat. You be his trustee and he will be yours. That way you still have some hold(just in case).
