Why did Silicon Valley swing hard right?
I’m currently a FT designer for Drift with $76k TC. The contract offer for Google via TEKsystems is 1yr at $60/hr. What should I do?
I did contact to hire through Teksystems. Worked out for me. You won't really interact with Tek other than for HR and Timesheet stuff. Don't let them pressure you, they will use sales tactics to get you take the job. I would base it on if you want to get experience at Google and like team you interview with. I've heard at some companies contractors can be treated like outsiders.
Google falls in this category. You’ll feel like a second class citizen, even more so than other places like say JPMC where you wouldn’t feel that way to such an extent.
For a designer, how is the job market?
Make sure if you goto google the next company should be tech company and if you apply for non tech or small companies they’ll get a question on why you are leaving google in 1 year( I might be wrong, it’s just my gut feeling). Try to see if google convert to full time. If it is HCOL it’s not worth at all. But 60 at google seems very low ask for atleast 85. Why don’t you look for full times as market is hot.
Getting google on your resume even as a contractor will open doors for you
Again, as other comment mentioned you have to explain your reason behind leaving after 1 year, which can be a sign of contractor instead of fulltime
You can be open about being a contractor. I believe it will still open doors for you
Is it common to have hourly rates in a contract?
All contract jobs are hourly. Especially through body shops like Teksystems, Collabera, kForce, etc.
