Planning to move to Europe. What are good tech hubs with decent pay. I have 6 yrs experience. 3 yrs at MSFT and 2.5 years at Google, currently Senior at MSFT. Berlin, London, Dublin? Do I lose my green card if I move for 3 yrs and then decide to come back? If I like Europe, I might not come back to US.
Only in Switzerland does compensation gets even remotely close to what you've been accustomed to in the us
Check out Amsterdam. You don't need to learn Dutch and there's a few tech companies that have their offices (Netflix, Uber, Google, Facebook) super cosmopolitan city. You won't get the same pay as in the US. But cost of living in Amsterdam is lower than the Bay Area. Berlin is also cool. I would avoid Dublin.
Thanks! Yes totally forgot Amsterdam.
Check out Helsinki. Big start-up scene there.
Yes, but only if you absolutely adore the cold.
Irelands the 800lb of tech. A tech company has made it when they open their Irish office. Quality of life is the best. Cleanest air in Europe. It rains but if your in a pub club or in bed with someone who cares. You can fly anywhere worth flying directly from Dublin and cheaply so getting some sun isn't hard.
Good pay, in Europe? Hmmm There is no such a thing like a 100K+ comp in Europe unless some specific positions from which "engineer" is not included. Switzerland comes the closer. Now a tech hub I'd consider Berlin or even Munich, Copenhagen. London housing fucks it all up but still the best tech hub in Europe (IMO).
Lose green card? Is that possible with a move?
Luxembourg is another option (Amazon's EU HQ is there and most/all people speak English). It's one of the priciest areas to live in Europe, but the pay is also slightly higher than in other European cities. As someone else already mentioned, you can expect a big pay cut (expect about 25%-50%) anywhere in Europe. Cost of living is a lot cheaper though, and you have so many fun places just a short plane ride away.
Don't join Amazon. It's a politically charged place. You'll choke.
I'm considering a similar move. Yes you will lose your green card unless you file for parole or even better get a US based employer to file an n470 and transfer you there. Having lived in both countries I'd recommend either Zurich or London. Getting Swiss work permits is tough though even with the backing of giants like Google.
Sugardaddy ??π³ I think Dublin doing good . Avoid UK / London for sure.
Dublin has horrible weather π§π§π§
Paris is picking up. Check out "Station F"
