150k base 80k joining cash bonus 100 RSUs First year total comp will be 200k. L6. Org is Alexa. Coming in with 6+ years experience in technical product management. Seems low to me, I am going to ask for way more RSUs. Any thoughts or suggestions on how this looks and what I should ask for? Thanks.
Low for pmt ... Can get upto 300k
That’s what I thought but was surprised by the offer. My loop was great btw (as told to me by both recruiter and hiring manager), so no reason for any reason for them to lowball me. Any suggestions on what I should do? I plan to counter with what I think I deserve, closer to 260k TC but worried how that will look since I am asking for 30% more than what they offered.
Also, is the 300k tc realistic for pmt with 6 years experience? In Seattle?
Nope. L6 TPMs don’t get that much stock. 200 if you are really really lucky.
Asking for PM-T, not TPM. You know those are different, right? I am aware TPMs don’t get as much.
TPMs get paid more than PMTs
TPM is not SWE. HWE is not SWE. Data engineer is not SWE. People expecting SWE salary for just about anything is insane.
TPM is also not PMT. Not expecting SDE salary at all, just trying to manage my expectations. Do you have anything useful to contribute?
$230-$260k is realistic. Maybe a bit high but might as well ask. Not sure which L6 PM-T’s make 400k but that’d be...unusual, I imagine.
Thanks for the inputs!
The real offer range for L6 PM-T is 185k to ~250k.
I got 160k base, 60k/50k signing for first two years, 200 RSUs at $930 5/15/40/40 if that helps you. 3 years experience, no MBA. Experience at MS might not help that much.
Wow! That’s a really good offer. You must have really good and relevant experience! Yeah, I am finding out experience for MS doesn’t really count for much as I interview around. I should have left a couple years ago.
What’s a PMT? A prod mgr who can code?
This isn't a shot at PM at all, Amazon just starts leveling at a higher number for PMs. They're not apples to apples like at MS. It's easy to be confused. If you want to comparison shop, look at L5 SWE salaries. In this context, your offer seems fine.
I no longer see just PM. Everyone in my PM org got their T added to the r role. What BS!! I know some who are super non technical
They do that at LinkedIn with TPMs - project mgrs with T added to the title. My exp with TPMs at Amzn was they came from the SDE path and lost out on promos to Sr SDE. At LinkedIn the TPMs are highly non-tech
@gaijon1 - can you expand on the TPM experience at LinkedIn? TPM is very stressful and most political role at amazon. How is it at LNKD? What level of technical depth is expected? and how is the politics?
Managed to get the offer raised to 160k base, 135k cash bonus and 130 RSUs. First year TC is 240k. Thanks everybody for your inputs and help!
Sweet deal. Great to go into the new year riding on some sweet moolah! Congratulations. Happy for you.
Thank you for the kind words! 😊

RSUs definitely seem low. Maybe asking for 150-200K of RSUs cos there's no bonus component I see.
Thanks. Yeah, Amazon has no concept of cash bonus every year. You may get stock bonus based on performance but I have heard that is pretty much non existent for first two years since you have joining stock bonus vesting and the stock price typically keeps going up, so amazon says you are getting a raise already. I would have imagined RSUs being closer to 250 or so but this lowball of 100 has me thinking if I may be overreaching there. I know L6 SDEs get closer to 350k in RSUs so wondering if the delta is really supposed to be that big between L6 PM-T and L6 SDE with similar experience.
Yes, here is a huge difference between the PMT and SDE job families.
