Posting on behalf of a friend who doesn't have the blind account. He has two offers right now for SDE2. Which one should he join? He is Inclined for Confluent but the TC gap is too high. I have been suggesting him to avoid Amazon but the TC difference is causing him a lot of confusion. Confluent: 50 + 10% bonus + 120K USD stocks =78 Amazon: 54 + (30 Y1, 24 Y2) + 770 units = 88 for Y1 He is working at a startup rn. His YOE:5 His Current TC: 70
Is the small jump from 70 worth it now if he goes to confluent? Amazon jump is higher but still less than SDE3 offers he can get (maybe after a few months or a year)
His startup is running out of funds and will do layoffs soon, that's why can't wait.
Then amazon purely for the resume effect and cash of course. Maybe you might be able to get an idea of his team's wlb, although seeing blind it seems it's bad everywhere lol. But I have seen a few lucky ones
Which company is he in right now ?
Can't disclose the name, will dox him. But it's a SF based startup with very small dev team in India.
I would have gone with Amazon here. Jumping from 70 to 78 does not make a lot of sense. But 70 to 88 still makes some. Yes stress is more at Amazon, but overall company wide I feel Amazon is pretty strong. Confluent is a bit shaky in recession, while Amazon would stand strong.
Amazon hands down, people need to stop exaggerating this PIP and WLB, Amazon offers great learning opportunity, better money and if your friend can hit L6, he will be making truckloads of money. Amazon is recession proof also, join Amazon
Ignoring the pip part assuming that it's a lot of poor performers/ex-coasters who post about it, what about wlb though? Still seems like the consensus among Amazon India posters. And not just bad for coasters, but actually stressful (I mean OP said it himself too lol)
No argument about the cash obv
How/What to prepare for multithreading round for Confluent? Any tips please? My work exp does not involve much multithreaded coding. Thanks!
Little book of semaphore for conceptual understanding
If he is inclined towards Confluent, can he try negotiating with them? They might be able to stretch a little.
He tried already. This is the best they can offer
Amazon Offer is great. You should consider joining it. At what price they have given stocks ?
Amazon.
Is 10L worth the extra stress?
Which org you in, op?
