Hi Blind community, This is such an insightful resource on various topics. Thank you for contributing to it. Currently, I'm in Russia and working on relocation to the US with EPAM. I have 8+ years of Product Mgmt experience as well as technical expertise(focused on DS and ML). I would like to assess with your help, guys, the possible range of base compensation in the US for the given background, especially considering that I'm a fresh immigrant? I've checked levelsfyi and the mean base compensation for this level of expertise, if we're to take a Product Manager role as an example, is about ±156K for the base (used Google, L4 PM). The current relocation offer from EPAM is a 120k base and a 15% bonus(offer take it or leave it type). I'll appreciate any piece of advice\information here. Thank you in advance and take care! #relocation #offer #product #pm #productmanager #google #apple #amazon #microsoft #salaries #negotiateoffer
If you came from a place that’s not well known I imagine they would give you the equivalent of an L5. Is it possible to apply to a better company there and then ask for us transfer?
Hi! Thank you for the details. This is a precise reason I have an O1 case - to switch from L1. If you meant to apply to a better company from Russia and ask for relocation support to the US, this is also an option, again O1 does an excellent job of saving money for the company in terms of paperwork for the visa. However, I have little to no response rate in my emails, applications, etc, when a recruiter realizes I’m not in the US. I assume that many companies don’t want to struggle with visa stuff and would instead hire someone physically in the US. Long story short - this is a possible option, but chances are relatively low.
Are you planning on coming to US on L1 or H1B?
EPAM offers L1, but I have O1 in the final stage. So, I’ll go for O1 if I receive an offer from other company and L1 if I wouldn’t able to secure the offer from abroad.
Interesting situation. L1 does not allow for portability and you have to go for GC filling or H1B conversion.
