1. Citadel Securities Verbal offer is 450K (200k base + 150k bonus + 100k sign on) (without negotation). It's the only offer I have so I doubt I'd have any room for negotiation. The expected working hours is within the range of 60 and 80 hours 2. Bloomberg current TC is 240k (190k base + 30k bonus + 20k sign on) with 3 yoe. The number of working hours I put a week is between 20 and 40. Things to consider: - I'm on non-immigrant visa that expires in a few years - I'm single - Have no experience in low latency programming. My background is full stack so not sure whether I'd enjoy the work at Citadel - I'm on TL track at Bloomberg. TL promotion within 1~2 year is my target which can lead to mgmt role in the future - Citadel Securities TC doesn't provide as much incentive as it seems in terms of bad WLB and stagnating career progression
Why not interview at FAANG
Given you're on a non immigrant visa and single, go for Citadel. Work those hours and make a bank.
How many yoe do you have?
What level is it for? Could go either way but in my opinion even if they claim expectations of 60-80 they really just mean they don’t want coasters. As long as you’re working I’d bet you can retain a good WLB but who really knows 🤷 Too much of a bump not to jump IMO and if you’re looking you must not be happy currently. Worst case you’ll still be unhappy but rich.
Tale as old as time: TC or WLB
so you'd be working 2x as much for < 2x pay... sounds like a no brainer.
I voted Citadel. You kinda knew what to expect when applying there. But anyways, you're young and single. Go make bank there, learn as much as you can and when you want to take it slow, you can go somewhere else.
For what it’s worth I’ve never seen anyone actually work 80hrs here, I’m sure it happens but it is not the norm. You’ll for sure work more than 20-40 but I’d say a more reasonable range is 45-55. The real sucker is that it is all in office time, WFH is very uncommon here
For this year, some new grad return offers are in the range of 500K. But you don't have any negotiating power anyway.
