Hi Blind, I need help with evaluating following offers. Bloomberg London: 110K Pound (97k + 13k target bonus) 8K Pound relocation (tax paid) Booking Amsterdam: 110K Euros (97k + 15% bonus) 40K Euros equity (3 years vesting) 3K Euros relocation (tax paid or exempted) 10K Euros sign-on (negotiated) Amazon India (accepted this a month back): 80L INR (includes base + bonus + reloc + 5% equity for first year) Bloomberg is clearly a case of low ball. All my interviews went good (better than booking, I'd say) and feedback is positive. I have a strong personal preference for London/Bloomberg. How should I go about negotiating this? I received the offer today, should I call back the HR right away (been a few hours) or wait at least a day so they take me seriously or something? With Booking, I could only negotiate additional sign-on. The HR isn't budging and it's take it or leave it. YOE: 4
How did you apply at Bloomberg?
Dropped my resume on their careers page
Is Bloomberg SSE?
Yes
What level at Amazon?
L5
Try negotiate the Bloomberg offer using the other offers. If not possible, Amsterdam is a great city to live I think. I recently visited for the first time and really enjoyed it. This is the first European city I enjoyed after living in London for couple of years.
Amazon is the clear winner here in terms of comp but as you prefer London would say try to bring Bloomberg TC to atleast 125k(base+bonus) otherwise it’s not worth going. You can transfer internally via Amazon later if you want to go to Europe as I feel < 125k pounds is not comparable with 75-80LPA TC in India Also is 40k equity per year or 3 years in booking? You may go for it with 40k per year, otherwise TC is low
For booking(.)com equity, it's 40k total for 3 years. I agree with what you're saying. In the best case scenario, Bloomberg offers 135k (standard levels.fyi number at 4 yoe) and puts the entire dilemma to rest
Regarding negotiation, how do you guys usually start the conversation? Jump straight to discussing numbers?
I recently switched companies and from what I observed negotiation tilts towards the person who’s less desperate. If they’re afraid to lose you only then they’ll budge for whatever TC you ask. At the same time you can negotiate comparing cost of living and also you can state how much Amazon offers in Europe and make them match that. The best negotiation I’ve seen are the ones where people were ready to let go of the offer unless their demands were met but I do understand that it might be a bit risky. So it’s upto you my friend how determined you’re 😁
That's really, really helpful! I'm gonna try and play a bit risky 😅
London is a great city. A really huge Indian community as well. Amsterdam might be a little better in term of salary consider there is some tax ruling which saves you some good amount of more money. Also Amsterdam has schengan visa which would be really great if you want to explore Europe. If you are really inclined towards London you can also ask booking to give you london location.
Which one did you finally went ?
Curious why you prefer London
Some infatuation. And more tech companies there down the road compared to AMS
I do want to relocate abroad.. work and roam in Europe for some years
