đŁ Exciting News! đ I'm thrilled to share that I have received an amazing offer from Netflix, and I wanted to take a moment to share my thoughts and seek some valuable input from all of you. Netflix has extended an offer to me with a Total Compensation (TC) package of $380. This is a significant increase compared to my current TC of $260. However, there's an additional aspect to consider: relocating from Seattle to the Bay Area. The Bay Area is known for its higher cost of living and taxes, and I'm uncertain if the move would truly be worth it. Can anyone here also share their experience as L4 Software Engineer YOE 4 years #NetflixOffer #RelocationDilemma #SeekingAdvice #DecisionMaking #Netflix #Amazon #Google #Meta#tech #Microsoft
Take the offer, stay there a couple of years then go back to Seattle with a higher salary. Also, was this written by chatGPT?
Hi congrats on your offer! Would you mind sharing your prep for coding and sys. design? Were most of your coding questions medium difficulty? Thank you in advance
I think most difficult part is getting an interview..
this man has been posting the same questions on every offer post for years now đ
Think about CA taxes and rent prices over there, the increase is just little bit
Ca tax slab is around 9% - actual is lesser. So, CA tax is at max 35k and hence not a deal breaker
I donât think your after-tax-income is going to be significantly higher because youâll pay more taxes and much higher rent(if not mortgage). Donât move because of more TC. Move because Netflix is better than Microsoft. Probably smarter people around so itâll help in your growth
Rent prices have significantly dropped in SF. 1 bedroom going for $2700 versus pre-Covid $3400. Youâll be fine and weâll off.
Yeah, Iâm aware of that. I donât think any sane person who cares about safety loves to be in downtown SF, most people live in other cities
Doesnât Netflix allow remote ? How many days of RTO are they asking for ?
Rent, and increased taxes probably make it a post tax $40K next gain. Not worth it for the uncertainty/culture of Netflix IMO. If you are looking to buy, it may be a net negative. If you are single looking to date (and this will rent) and a hetero male, it's a dead zone.
40k is 40k lol, why act like that's trivial? It's also not just about the TC and about career growth. It'd be almost insane to pass down this offer at 4 yeo in these market conditions. In another year or two you can make a jump out of the bay area.
40k may not be worth it because, say he ends up working 10 hours a week extra on average, then he would would effectively be taking a loss
Whats your yoe
It's a tough call. Not sure how much a diff of 120k is after tax and then higher cost of living diff for bay area
Assuming 70k after tax, thats 5k bump. Hopefully rent/house extra expense is lower than that
380 sounds on the lower end for Netflix. What is your yoe?
4 years
It is on the low end for L5, especially in the bay, but seems about right for L4. On the bright side, if its for L5, you'll have a lot of room for raises, so I wouldn't worry toooo much about it -- managers tend to catch you up pretty quickly when they get the chance , at least in a normal market \_(ă)_/ÂŻ

Congratulations on the offer, OP! I would definitely take the offer, since Netflix would be worth the move in your case, especially at the TC bump. I would try and negotiate for WFH after a few months and move to a lower COL area to save on commuting expenses. Good luck! TC: 90K
One other option nobody else mentioned so far - negotiate with Microsoft for higher comp if the move to CA doesn't make sense.
I respectfully disagree. Itâs usually a bad idea to accept a retention offer from a company, especially considering that it usually puts a target on your back for layoffs and denials for promos later on. OP would be better off just leaving outright and not burning any bridges in case he wants to come back later.
