Do you interview for fun?
I received an offer from a startup for 275K base 10% bonus. It’s for head of marketing. I like the team, I like the culture, I like the product. It’s not my first time in start up. I’ve had a great journey in a previous startup. I’m also in the process with Snowflake for a manager role. Base is similar. I’ve never worked at a company this large. Might hate it but I’ve been curious to try it out and the Snowflake brand could be good on my résumé. I’m also interested in how much RSUs would be worth, and if it’s a no-brainer to take a job if offered at Snowflake over the start up. I might have to make a decision about that start up since I’m further along the process there than I am with Snow. What’s a typical stock grant for mgr at Snow? What’s the hiring process like at Snow and how long could this take? Any other advice? Thank you!
Can't speak for snow, mostly hearing good things about them. This feels like it's more about your personal tolerance for risk. Snow is the safer option, do you see the startup glowing up in a reasonable timeframe?
Startup you basically work for your base and a lottery ticket. Snowflake you are working for your total comp. Really depends on where you are in your life and also so many other factors.
Can you share what the total comp composition is usually like?
dont do startup for the next two years particularly if they raised in 2021, 2022 with crazy valuation. all of them have a big runway problem looming if not profitable. many will go defunct or layoff or get acquired for pennies on the dollar. Better to go to a company like snowflake which has a good brand name and stock portion of the comp is liquid. now if you already have a few millions in the bank and can survive a company or an industry downturn and feeling lucky then go with the startup. your life could change if all the stars align and you have a good liquidity event in the next 5 years.
What team at snow?
