For an early career PM, does it makes more sense to learn PM craft through a structured approach or learn more about the main domain (AI/FinTech/Cloud Infrastructure etc) as well as domain adjacent spaces and focus less on the craft? #productmanagement #pm
I’m wondering the same currently a gas turbine engineer who manages crews during outages, I definitely see the benefit of switching fields but my current skillset is more of a PM position as I’m a field engineer and my background is mechanical engineer. If i begin to learn about AI/fintech etc. and take my current PM experience with a mechanical engineering background perhaps that’d be a good mix to get into FAANG... what do you currently do?
PM is primarily a soft skills job. First get that bolted down, domain specific skills can wait and be gained with more experience in the actual role would be my advice.
