My head partner said during a team skype call that as for corona, no one will get a raise. However promotion are maintained but without the raise ... Just picture it : Getting promoted to Manager but with SC pay .... Well that's what happening right now ! Few days ago, I joined a new project. We were having a small chat about upcoming evaluation , I had this conversation with one of the senior consultant. He said in a very idle way: - My evaluation got well & I got a 6% raise - Oh really ? I thought no one is getting a raising this year - Well you know my utilisation rate is top notched even on lockdown I was billing. I have been billing very well this year & past years. I was very shocked, as I reminding myself of my colleagues frustration for getting the promotion but without the raise. I don't think that he was lying otherwise it doesn't make sense. I asked similar colleague with a similar utilisation rate & no one got a raise. I have been staffed on a project that is the main cashcow of the BU for the last 4 years. This senior has been on this project for almost 3 years. So my question what should I do with that information. I still didn't get my evaluation it's next week & I plan to bring that up. But how should I use this information ? For context : - I'm based in Big 4 in Europe & a Junior Consultant (10 months). - Earlier in May, the CEO of our division said : " No raise for manager & up , from Junior to Senior Consultant , it might possible but it will depends on the BU" - On the last 3 months, most of us were not staffed so we were in what we called " Partial unemployment". It's governement initiative, if you cannot work bc of economic context , so 84% of your salary is paid by the government. Also we had the strict rule to not work or connect to our laptop. (Government will audit that this condition is respected otherwise huge fine coming up). #consulting #promotion #raise
Don’t be a rat. It can hurt you and the other person.
Start interviewing with other companies. Promotion without a TC increase is basically another way to pile new workload and expectations, but not rewarding you. It's a scam.
Getting 84% of your salary without having to work is a "raise" that I'd gladly take any time!
Are you based in Germany? I am guessing based on what I know about kurzarbeit seems to line up with what you’re saying 😉 If so, you know this is all determined based on skill set alignment to your works council right? Did the people who got raises fall under a different works council than you? I find it really hard to believe that with such a system someone did not qualify for any pay raise during promotion unless ushered in from another works council with higher pay ranges. I guess they could adjust the pay ranges down but that is a shit move and I find it weird that would get approved. Seems you do not have strong enough representatives.
Might be normalization for this person based on his new level. Not to be confused with promo hike.
Find a new employer... they can't even keep you busy so you aren't learning anything.
I would bring it up and see if they would consider your raise or bonus case. It wouldn’t be fair otherwise
I wouldn't bring it up if it were me to be honest. Many companies and business units I hear have some sort of freeze on compensation given the situation - there may be one off situations like that friend's you mentioned - but probably not normal based on what you say it seems like. Bringing up that friend's case up to whoever would be like ratting out and wouldn't be a good image - and if you bring it up while keeping the identity confidential, message won't have impact, so either way not really effective I would think. I agree getting burdened with additional responsibilities via "promo" but no TC change sucks. Why not just leverage the promoted title to switch to a different company?
Lol....can you reject the promo?
