Would you join a new team who has a ex Amazon manager (stayed for 6+ years) that recently joined your company? Tc 285
Talk to the manager. Amazon is more likely to have toxic managers but your manager can be a great one.
Generally agree this is the way, but since many Amazon managers have to become chameleons and sociopaths in order to succeed at Amazon, there’s no guarantee that you won’t be tricked by their BS. Still a big risk in my experience.
I worked at Amazon for 2 years and loved my manager. Near the end, he became my skip and a new guy came in and was awful. He was a L5 manager and really inexperienced.
Stop reading Blind about Amazon managers , will mess with your head This place is a bubble of unhappy people who complain about everything and it is never their fault when things go bad for them And realize 99% of people who comment on Amazon/ MSFT/Google/Meta culture never actually worked there , just parroting what they read and then this place becomes an echo chamber
Never been a manager at Amazon , done managing people …., but have had consistently awesome managers at Amazon
Yes the Amazon culture is crap but honestly give the person the benefit of the doubt. Most folks I’ve worked with don’t want to retain the Amazon elites brainwashed attitude and thus aren’t out there to sabotage others for self gains. The performance reviews and that the fact that HR requires managers to hit some pip metric (my last Amazon em shared that he had to pip at least 10% of his directs in which 5% must be terminated due to lack of performance. He left after 2.5 years) Work with your manager. Be humble but speak true to the state of things. If the manager is micro managing you too much speak up. Use the 1on1 session to not only find the best way to work with each other but how can both of y’all can build a self sufficient and remarkable team.
False
Career suicide…. that ex-PIP Factory manager will not be giving the new hire on the team the “benefit of the doubt” after after simmering in the toxic PIP Farm soup for six years. They drank the Kool Aid and are too much risk.
Don’t take risk dude , not worth it .
I would rather work for Elon Musk than any Amazon's SDM
Get off blind and touch grass.
I feel the same with any manager from Oracle. Look at what happened with GCP.
My manager at Amazon is great
Say you are Amazon SDM without saying it
😂 is Amazon's rep that bad? Maybe I'm just lucky.
This is way too much generalization. I had 2 managers that were great. Not everyone is bad out there.
Not everyone is so lucky like you
I think it depends on org at amazon. Some org has pretty awesome managers and they also stress on wlb. While some are shitty with tight deadlines and micromanagement
😂 mutual hate for amazon managers My manager at amazon is great but I have seen many orgs with this type of managers
I have had 3 managers at Amazon. I have liked 2 of them. 2/3 ain't that bad. I don't get all this drama about managers from Amazon. I've had worse records at other companies

Quitting this Slave life
Never. Amazon managers are generally a cancer to any organization they join.
Speaking from experience?
Second this. The worst managers that I've had the unpleasant experience of working with were all from Amazon. Pure cancer, once you see plenty of Amazon managers joining that's a sign to switch orgs place is about to become radioactive
