Ex Amazonians at Microsoft... Why?

What made you go from Amazon to Microsoft and what you miss from Amazon.

Bad management for me at Amazon was the biggest driver to move to Microsoft. Have had a very good experience at Microsoft and would never want to go back to Amazon. There is a lot of politics at Microsoft (probably same for Amazon esp L6 onwards). But engineers are graded only on engineering skills and delivering work rather than leadership principals. Recently interviewed at Amazon but don't want to go there. Not a good interview experience as well. As far as what I miss from Amazon, there really isn't much to miss. My overall comp is more than Amazon(this is very dependant on case by case basis) and the benefits are great.

Just curious ... Does Microsoft hire people who don't know C# or one of those other languages they use? What if someone has just worked on Java? Would they still hire if they are good?

Microsoft doeufueish Mar 8, 2019

Yessir, we hire good developers who worked with any language

Despite better WLB in Azure. The tech stack at Microsoft is literally the reason I chose AWS. Still not sure if I did the right thing😐
