I am a software engineer by training. Worked in the industry for about 10 years. Started consulting business about 5 years ago. Had to shut it down due to staff issues and Client slowdown. Not technically hands on anymore. But pretty good with Product management and business development. Hardly have any savings <$50k. What should I do? Start a business or take up a corporate job? Also, not sure what roles to apply. Tried a few sales/account management roles, never got a reply. Product management roles are next on my list as I have a lot of relevant experience. Not sure how to explain career goals and gap in career/jobs. Any suggestions on how to position my profile better? If you are hiring for senior roles, how would you look at entrepreneurial experience? #tech #career #sales #product #jobhunt #directorlevel

Restart your consulting business?
That is an option. However, it does not give me the scale that would be exciting enough. I'm just not sure if I have it in me to do the services model again.
Pick up a shovel and get to work boy
Thank you for the valuable advice!
You’ll need to get a loan and look into your LLC so you don’t lump your personal finances with your business finances. IMO once you crossed the ten year threshold it’s good to try the water on your own. It’ll give you a lot of appreciation for big companies since they had to do exactly what you will be trying to do. You get a better view on the market and what the function of a company is and you’ll also learn how to truly budget and think ahead like a real chess game.
