I watched two Google Engineers refuse to give up a seat for a lady holding a newborn baby at the airport.

I used to be a broke security guard. My dream for a long time was to be SWE making six figures. Once I did it, I lost my fire and I realized I became lazy and stopped learning. I needed a new carrot to chase so I decided I'm going for SWE at Google and giving myself 1 year to prepare. Hopefully the market for engineers is better by then. What should I do besides doing LC everyday after work and networking my ass off? TC 147k YOE 4
You’ll need to prep system design as a mid level. And prepare anecdotes for googleyness behaviorals. Best prep for these things is on the job, so try to do work that aims at these things
What's Googleyness
Fancy word for behavioural interview.
I’m just here to wish you the best buddy! You got this
I don’t have as much confidence in you as costar, but still wish you the best op
After Leetcode, Leetcode more
I was once like you. Then when I got into Google, I was taken aback by the bureaucracy and politics. I am now disappointed and looking to jump ship when the economy improves.
Jeez, you described my big tech experience to a T. I was at Apple though and made the mistake of jumping to amazon instead of trying something new. Learned my lesson. Actively trying to leave.
Good, once you leave I can take your spot
I like the spirit and I’m rooting for you!

Leetcode after work is not enough. You need to leetcode in your dream. Also make sure you type faster than Bard
Outside of Leetcode you only need to eat and go to bathroom, otherwise, Leetcode some more
You can leetcode while eating and going to the bathroom. Those are not mutually exclusive activities. No excuses
You got this bro
If you plan to interview 1 year from now, it’s too early to start LC. You won’t remember shit by then
This for sure, but I would get the fundamentals down before you dive into Leetcode. At least, make sure you know all the data structures, Big-O for each operation, and learn the common patterns. Let it stick around in your brain for a while, then hit the gas on Leetcode a few months before you want to interview.
If I were OP, and wanted to get a head start on interview prep, I'd honestly just make a habit of reading engineering blogs at high scale companies every day. You'll start to notice patterns and gain a sense of how to build scalable systems , if that's not something you get an opportunity to do in your day-to-day (which is something I would try to change ASAP if you're gunning for a senior role anywhere). The leetcode stuff can be rememorized in a couple of months, so it's best to save that until right before you'll use it.
Won’t be hiring by then.
Even after a year? Why wouldn’t they?
