Exit opportunity for LinkedIn infra

I feel the engineering bar at infra is higher than application team, the engineering problems are challenging and interesting. But I dislike it actually involves lots devops. So what should be the next exit opportunity? I should continue search for infra teams at other companies? Or switch to other fields? What about ML infra? The name is fancy but I’ll afraid essentially it’s devops heavy

Have you had a pagerduty call at 2 AM where if you don't make a decision or fix, the company will lose millions in an hour?

Financial Services Company nvftu Apr 8, 2022

Really million in an hour? Check earnings, annualized (250 biz days) it is 6 billion just a system you supoort. You are significantly underpaid or significantly over your head

Infra used to be interesting until 5 years ago but aren’t most infra problems of scale solved now and mostly involves maintenance work ?

Ok then what’s the fields for future?

What infra team at LinkedIn? I’m working on data infra at LinkedIn and we’re working on some pretty novel tech and building systems from scratch. Devops work is not much, in fact it falls mostly on sre.

What kind of novel tech?

LinkedIn shootashot Apr 9, 2022

Like building out a type of database from scratch. Lots of different tracks of work ranging from building out control plane (more familiar type or work) to building out query evaluation (more research type of work)
