Have about 20 yoe. MS in CS. It is a principal architect role position in the Bay Area. My recruiter is asking me what is my expected TC. What is fair?
tell them market price. always aks them to give the numbers first, and then you can negotiate
How to find out the market price?
You say market price when they ask for expectations and find out what they offer. And get competitive offers
To be honest there won’t be big TC improvement going to Roku.
This is not true. Roku pays very well.
Confirmed. Got a nice pay bump coming from fang
Tc or gtfo
Similar to Google’s comp. https://www.levels.fyi
Good to know! Would a principal architect role be comparable to a T6 role at Google then?
T7, I would say.
No matter what they offer, negotiate! Negotiate strong
There is nothing to be negotiated yet as the recruiter just ask me what I expect and said will get that my numbers work out.
Just say you expect to be paid at "Market" then negotiate
California and NY laws requires employers to publish salary ranges for the positions when potential candidates request for it.
Never heard of a principal architect role at Roku, unless you mean at your current company. As far as I know you’re either a senior software engineer or software engineering manager
There is also Principle Engineer role which is highest paid role in engineering. There are very few though.
@OP did you end up at Roku?

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
What is your current tc?
The recruiter don’t even seem to care. My salary was relatively low, looking for a long waited adjustment.
