Currently at amazon (L6 PgM) . Interviewing at Expedia for a Sr.Manager (team lead ) in he analytics org. While money in amazon is better, what other factors should I consider before making the decision
WLB is very important factor for some and exchange peace of mind for few thousands. Consider yourself as buying peace of mind for that extra $$ that Amazon rips off your life.
Expedia's a garbage fire, stay away, especially for less money. Thier new office is going to be a nightmare to commute to. Don't be stupid
Wow, why are you still at Expedia if you think it’s that bad?
It's all a matter of time, though it's changing now I had a lot of freedom for myself and family. Now that it's changing I'm planning my escape. They fired a lot of management and only crap political ones remain.
Many high L5s and low L6s at Amazon were / are Directors at Expedia. Don’t undersell yourself!
Factors matter to you. Less money for more experience / opportunities makes sense, if the work is valuable.
Expedia is dying. They don't innovate they only follow competitors and buy those they can afford. The tech dies on the vine.
Amazon is the way to go. Company is growing crazy and stock is flying high. Why would anyone leave amazon for expedia? If u really dont care about money and care work life balance join Costco
Agree with Boolixert. I was in Amazon and went to Expedia for WLB and now regret it. Really different tier of the company and also $$. Unless they give you director you can go for resume.
Expedia isn't something to add to a resume. Some 5th tier company might be impressed but anyone in the know will look at you like trash. The company is behind in every way compared to Booking.com which is much smaller. Barry Dillard is destroying this company with micro management
Agree. When I was interviewing, ppl asked me a lot of question about Amazon but not about Expedia.
Don't go to Expedia. Directors at Expedia go as L6 at Amazon. It's not only a step down right now, you won't get the same offer from Amazon in the future once you join Expedia.
From others I've seen apply to Amazon they were getting 10k less vs those coming from other companies.
Just to give you another perspective, I’ve been at Expedia a few years and have never been happier. Yes I know I could make more somewhere else, but I’ve worked at some of the biggest tech companies in the area and I would choose Expedia over and over. I love what I’m working on, I love my WLB, I have amazing coworkers. Yes the new commute is going to completely suck for me, and time will tell if it hurts my WLB too much to stay. But right now I’m pretty darn happy.
Ppl don’t go from Amazon to Expedia. Only the other way. Expedia can’t get out of its own way
I would look at an internal transfer. Don’t go to Expedia for less money. What’s going on at Amazon?
